    It was Circa 2005 on a lazy Sunday morning,at the crack of dawn,tired after an overnight party Sandeep started strumming his father’s old acoustic guitar which fuelled the idea of forming a rock band and 5 AM the brain child of the then Engineering students Amrit,Prony and Sandeep was born. Why the name 5 AM? There are 2 theories or explanations doing the rounds,one being jamming at 5 AM on the day we decided to form the band and the other,the acronym for “5 Aphrodisiac Munks”. Over the next few months,the band roped in Zaki who was asked to learn the guitar and Santosh as the drummer who had no formal training.5 AM started playing college gigs and in cafes and the drummer had to call it quits due to academics. The band had to take a sabbatical and it was in june 2006,when the band got a face lift with the inclusion of subbu as the new drummer.The band started getting the much needed recognition and started working on its originals.The band has evolved from the “we play only covers” phase to a band that gives importance only to original music.The band has close to 10 originals and though it draws inspiration from the biggies of Rock and metal,it does not believe in imitation anymore. 5 AM composes original music with no particular genre in mind and like most bands it is hard to define its music.
